Lotus, male cat , 5-years old suffered a mechanical injury to the eye.
He came to our Pets Haven Veterinary Clinic in Dubai six months ago. A thorough examination of the cornea using an I-Glo Fluorescein Sodium Ophthalmic strip test revealed a large corneal injury.
We began treatment to avoid enucleation. After a while, the condition worsened, bleeding increased, and the eyeball ruptured, forcing us to consider enucleation with the owner.
As a last resort, we changed the treatment plan and began using chloramphenicol ophthalmic ointment, along with systemic antibiotics and anti-inflammatory steroids, administered intramuscularly (IM), rather than intraocularly. The fluids and blood collected inside the eyeball were removed.
The results were excellent after about 2-3 months.
